French brand Zadig & Voltaire has joined forces with No More Plastic, to launch a misshaped turtle pin that reflects the fate of many of these sea creatures.
The initiative aims to generate public awareness about plastic pollution, tying in to No More Plastic’s goal to ban the use of single-use plastics, which make up 50% of plastic pollution. The central part of this conversation is around the fact eight million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean each year.
The custom pin created by the two businesses is based on the No More Plastic logo, demonstrating the way the turtle is often damaged by plastics while in the ocean, resulting in so many of their shells getting squeezed by a six-pack ring while they are growing.
The customized pin will be made available to any customer at the end of every purchase on the Zadig & Voltaire e-commerce site in Europe.
The brand has also launched a social media campaign with the hashtag #BETHEGENERATIONOFCHANGE, which advocates for people to take a selfie with the pin and encourage friends to join the movement by tagging them in their post.
No More Plastic’s manifesto also highlights that the amount of plastic produced globally is about the same as the entire weight of humanity.
