Yes you read that correctly, the models at Desigual wore Snapchat filters as make-up looks at New York Fashion Week this past weekend – and the internet went wild.

The real-life versions of the augmented reality lenses we’re all increasingly obsessed with included painted on puppy noses, buzzing bees and speckled deer looks, as well as flower crowns and butterfly headpieces.

An ironic commentary on our selfie-obsessed lives? Or a clever use of social media-inspired looks to create social media buzz? Either way, it’s a true sign of the times, not to mention the currency of Snapchat on a global stage.

Created by the team at MAC, they accompanied the Spanish brand’s ‘Global Traveller’ SS17 collection.

Tweet with the official New York Fashion Week hashtag this week – #NYFW – and you might spot the pleasant surprise of a fashion-themed emoji to go with it. Twitter has released a total of seven custom designs, including a dress, high heel and leather jacket, which will change throughout the week.
